We talked about this with avid “comic fans. Many of them argue that there are several reasons to get hooked on comics:

  • The story itself can interest you;
  • A particular author’s style may be of interest;
  • A particular artist’s style may be of interest;

Many people are not particularly hung up on reading all the issues of a particular comic book series in chronological order. There are often several authors or artists responsible for a particular time period of the storyline working on such a cycle. Thus, readers often choose an author they like and purchase issues he or she has worked on.
Another reason why comics are so popular is the variety of genres, in which everyone will find something they like, if they get rid of the stereotype that “comics are something about superheroes.”

However, fans of comics are increasingly complaining that today most of them have become very commercialized, and when buying the next issue the reader is confronted with advertising on 40% of the pages (especially the issues from the aforementioned most famous publishers). Fortunately, however, there are also underground publishers who continue to delight fans with both a more soulful approach and a more attractive, psychedelic and non-trivial image.

A definite plus in the modern era of comics is that authors are getting much closer to the reader thanks to social media. They are openly in touch with fans: you can always send a positive and motivating review to the author or donate some money.

Today, you can buy comics both in specialty stores (if there are any in your city) and in online stores.
